THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOUND HERE IN THE VALLEY!
ORIGINAL POST CAN BE FOUND AT:Â Â Clark County Safe and Lock
Steps to fix
- Extend the deadbolt with door open and measure the length of the bolt ( this will tell you how deep the hole needs to be)
- Remove strike plate and drill hole to depth needed. (Make sure you do not protrude into drywall, or electrical lines that may be hidden along the jam. (Every door jam is different – make sure to do your diligence)
- Clean bolt/strike hole of all debris
- Shut and attempt to secure door ( you should be able to extend bolt all the way and in many cases hear the bolt catch in its detents)
- If all is good… Open door and replace strike plate. and check again for proper operation… Presto you are done.
- If not, repeat steps above until hole is deep enough.
- If you do not feel comfortable doing this, call a locksmith; but, get it repaired. If not to prevent a credit card invasion, it will at least give you peace of mind.
